Our Training Philosophy
Learning is the process of acquiring new knowledge, skills, and behaviors. Learning is a lifelong activity, essential to personal and professional success. Training is the active attempt to promote learning at one or more of the following three levels:
Imparting new KNOWLEDGE (by communicating information)
Building new SKILLS (by providing practice)
Changing behavior / ATTITUDES (by facilitating shifts in personal values)
Corporate training becomes increasingly more challenging, the deeper the desired level of learning.
While corporate training is sometimes forced upon target groups, true learning only happens when an individual chooses to learn. Thus, effective training must be learner-centered, that is:
- Based on accurately assessed needs (of individuals).
- Adjusted to the learner’s motivation, education/culture, and experience.
- Drawing upon the past learning and experience of the individual.
- Providing opportunities for active experimentation.
As wonderful as learning is, it does not solve all performance problems. Corporate training can help with one piece of the performance puzzle.
True Performance Consultants must measurably improve performance. We have a responsibility to identify the limitations of training and to acknowledge the need for a holistic approach when addressing performance problems.
